E-learning app development

One learning app, on every screen your students use.

An e-learning app delivers study material and practice to students on the web and on their phones, and keeps track of who has paid for what. Acasa Labs builds them for coaching institutes, educators, and edtech startups. NoteTube, our own learning platform, runs on the web, iOS, Android, a Chrome extension, and an MCP server from one backend.

The problem

Students switch screens. Most learning apps do not keep up.

A student reads on a laptop at night, revises on the phone on the bus, and watches the lecture in a browser. If notes, progress, and purchases do not follow them, they stop using the app. The business side is just as tangled: Apple and Google take subscriptions in the app, the web takes cards, educators want paying out, and somebody has to make all of it agree at the end of the month.

What we build

  1. 01

Web and mobile from one backend

A Next.js web app and an Expo app for iOS and Android sharing accounts, content, and progress through one API.

  2. 02

    Material students can study from

Notes, summaries, quizzes, and flashcards, so the app teaches instead of only storing files.

  3. 03

    Subscriptions on every platform

In-app purchase on iOS and Android, cards on the web, and one record of who is entitled to what.

  4. 04

    Payouts for educators

A marketplace where teachers and creators publish and sell study material, with balances and earnings dashboards.

From production

From running NoteTube on five surfaces.

  • Five surfaces, one backend

    NoteTube

NoteTube's web app, iOS and Android apps, Chrome extension, and remote MCP server all sit on the same services, so it is one product to run rather than five.

  • Billing reconciled on a schedule

    NoteTube

Stripe takes payments on the web and RevenueCat in the apps. A scheduled job reconciles subscriptions between them, so entitlement has one answer, not two.

  • A marketplace with real payouts

    NoteTube

Educators sell study material through Stripe Connect, with payouts, balances, and earnings dashboards built into the product.

  • Content from any source

    NoteTube

Students bring PDFs, YouTube lectures, recordings, DOCX files, images, and articles, and every one becomes the same structured notebook.

Honest trade-offs

Build an app, or use a course platform?

If you are selling video courses to a few hundred students, a hosted course platform will do the job for a monthly fee, and you should start there. Build your own e-learning app when the app is the product: when you need your brand in the app stores, study tools a course platform does not have, your own pricing across web and mobile, or a marketplace where other educators sell through you.

Questions

E-learning apps questions we get asked.

Do you build e-learning apps for both iOS and Android?

Yes, from one Expo codebase, alongside a Next.js web app on the same backend. That is how NoteTube ships.

How do in-app subscriptions work with web payments?

Apple and Google require in-app purchase for digital content sold in the app, which we handle with RevenueCat. Web payments go through Stripe, and a scheduled job keeps the two in agreement.

Can other teachers sell on our app?

Yes. NoteTube's marketplace pays educators through Stripe Connect, with balances and earnings dashboards. We can build the same for your platform.

Can you add AI study tools to an existing course app?

Yes. We can add a grounded tutor, quizzes, and flashcards over the content you already have, through an API your current app calls.

Who owns the app and the student data?

You do: the code, the store listings, and the data. NoteTube is our product; your app is yours.

Can students bring their own material?

In NoteTube, yes: PDFs, YouTube lectures, recordings, DOCX files, images, and web articles each become notes, quizzes, and flashcards. A custom app can do the same, or allow only the material you publish.

Can the app work with ChatGPT or Claude?

NoteTube runs a remote MCP server on Cloudflare Workers, with OAuth and audience-checked tokens, so ChatGPT, Claude, and Cursor can query a student's notes after the student signs in. We can add the same to your app.
