App maintenance cost

Maintenance with us costs $100 to $300 a month.

App maintenance costs $100 to $300 a month with us. It covers updates and security fixes, monitoring, hosting upkeep, and the small changes that come up after launch, for web apps, mobile apps, and websites. When the work grows beyond small changes, a half-time developer at $750 to $1,000 a month is the next step. Hosting and store fees are billed separately by the providers.

Where an app sits in the $100 to $300 range depends on how much it has to keep running: one website is at the low end, a mobile app with payments and scheduled jobs is higher. We write down what is included before we start.

Every price on this page is our own rate card, in US dollars. The minimum project is $1,500. A dedicated developer is $1,500 to $2,000 a month. What drives the cost of app maintenance

Maintenance is mostly the work you do not see: keeping things current and noticing problems before customers do.

  • How many moving parts

A website has a host and a CMS. A product with a mobile app, a backend, a database, queues, and scheduled jobs has many more things that can go wrong.

  • Mobile apps in the stores

Apple and Google raise their minimum requirements regularly, and SDKs follow. An app that is not updated can be blocked from new releases.

  • Payments and third-party APIs

Payment gateways, messaging APIs, and social platform APIs change and deprecate. Each one connected is a thing to watch.

  • How often you want changes

A few small changes a month fit in maintenance. A steady stream of new features is development, and is cheaper on a half-time developer.

  • Who built it

If we built it, we know the code. If someone else did, we start with a short audit of the code, hosting, and accounts before taking it on.

02

Maintenance or a half-time developer

Maintenance keeps a stable product healthy. A half-time developer moves a live product forward. If your list of requests is longer every month than the month before, the half-time arrangement at $750 to $1,000 for about 80 hours will cost less than paying for changes one by one.

A common path moves between the two: a build, then a few months of half-time development while users ask for things, then maintenance once the product settles.

03

What a month of maintenance looks like

Most months, nothing visible happens, and that is the point. Framework, library, and SDK upgrades go in on a schedule. Dependency and security alerts are handled before they turn into incidents. Error tracking and uptime checks tell us about a problem before a customer does, and alerts on the jobs and queues that matter catch the quiet failures, such as a reminder that stopped sending.

Then there are the small changes: a new field on a form, a changed price, a report someone needs, a page for a new service. These are handled by people who already know the code, so a ten-minute change stays a ten-minute change.

And there is the upkeep around the software: hosting, domains, analytics, and app store accounts kept current, all in your name. When Apple or Google raise their requirements, the app is updated before a release is blocked.

These are client work and our own products. They show the kind of upkeep and monitoring maintenance involves.

  • The IT partner, not only the builder

    The Sharp Interiors

We built The Sharp Interiors' website and gallery CMS, and we look after their hosting, domain, analytics, and the changes that come up month to month.

  • Health you can see

    Kraftr

Kraftr's workers write heartbeats every 10 seconds into a liveness view in the admin, so a stuck queue is visible before a customer reports it.

  • Recovery built in

    Pullsy

Pullsy's scheduler recovers crashed jobs from missed heartbeats, and Meta API errors are mapped to backoff with jitter, capped at 30 minutes.

  • Automation without a server to babysit

    GymFast

GymFast runs its reminders, expiry, and auto check-out on scheduled edge functions, so there is no server process to keep alive.

04

How to spend less on maintenance

  1. 01Use managed hosting and managed databases. Less to patch.
  2. 02Keep dependencies current every month rather than in a painful jump every two years.
  3. 03For Expo apps, ship fixes that do not need a store review as over-the-air updates.
  4. 04Batch small change requests into one list a month.
  5. 05Drop features nobody uses. Each one is something to maintain.

05

When you do not need a maintenance plan

A simple marketing site on a managed host, with a CMS your team edits, may need only an occasional check, not a monthly plan.

An internal tool used by a few people, with no payments and no mobile app, can often wait for an issue and be fixed on demand.

A maintenance plan makes sense when the software runs part of your business, takes payments, has a mobile app in the stores, or changes often.

Questions

App maintenance cost, asked often.

How much does app maintenance cost per month?

With us, $100 to $300 a month, depending on how many moving parts the app has. We write down what is included before we start.

What does maintenance include?

Updates and security fixes, monitoring, hosting and domain upkeep, and an agreed amount of small changes each month.

Are hosting and app store fees included?

No. They are billed by the providers to accounts in your name.

Can you maintain an app another team built?

Yes. We start with a short audit of the code, the hosting, and the accounts, then take over the routine work.

What if I need new features?

Small changes fit in maintenance. For steady feature work, a half-time developer at $750 to $1,000 a month costs less.

Who holds the accounts and passwords?

You do. We work in your accounts as team members, so nothing has to be handed back if you move on.
